Outdoors Club is a fun and exciting new club brought to STEM this year with the help of Mr. Trachtenberg and Miss Cogan. The club is sponsored by Sierra Club, whose goal is to explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the Earth! Outdoors Club goes on several outings each year, including hikes, indoor rock climbing, and camping.
Founded in 1892, the Sierra Club is the nation's largest and most influential environmental organization, with over two million members. Aside from protecting millions of acres of wilderness, they have also helped pass the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act.
This year, selected members of Outdoors club had the opportunity to join the Youth Leadership Program. The Angeles Youth Leadership Program aims to provide outdoor experiences and training for young adults in urban environments. The Youth Leadership Program focuses on developing leadership and outdoor skills so participants can lead hikes among their peers and families or even become assistant leaders on Angeles ICO trips upon completion of this program.
